VIDEO: Oshiomhole Explodes Over Insecurity, Confronts Akpabio In Senate
Abuja, Nigeria—Senator Adams Oshiomhole has openly challenged Senate President Godswill Akpabio over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, accusing the leadership of the National Assembly of failing to hold security agencies accountable amid relentless attacks, kidnappings, and killings across the country.
The dramatic confrontation unfolded during a heated Senate session as lawmakers deliberated on the rising wave of insecurity that has continued to threaten lives and livelihoods in several parts of Nigeria.
The debate focused on recent incidents involving the abduction of schoolchildren, attacks on rural communities, and the growing influence of armed criminal groups operating across various regions.
Speaking passionately on the Senate floor, Oshiomhole expressed frustration over what he described as the military’s disregard for resolutions passed by the upper legislative chamber.
According to him, the Senate had previously directed military authorities to provide details of officers allegedly responsible for security lapses linked to a major school abduction incident in Kebbi State, but no response has been received despite repeated demands.
“This Senate passed a resolution directing the military high command to identify the officer responsible and explain what disciplinary measures were taken, yet nothing has come back to us,” Oshiomhole said, visibly displeased during the proceedings.
The former Edo State governor recalled the widely reported incident in which troops were allegedly withdrawn from a vulnerable school environment shortly before nearly 200 students were kidnapped by bandits.
The incident sparked national outrage and renewed concerns about intelligence failures and operational shortcomings within the country’s security architecture.
Oshiomhole warned that the continued silence from military authorities risks undermining the Senate’s constitutional oversight responsibilities and weakening public confidence in democratic institutions.
He argued that accountability remains essential if Nigeria is to effectively confront the escalating security challenges confronting citizens daily.
His remarks come at a time when insecurity remains one of the country’s most pressing concerns.
From mass abductions and ransom demands to deadly attacks on communities, many Nigerians have continued to call for stronger action, greater transparency, and improved coordination among security agencies.
The Senate’s latest debate underscores growing pressure on both political leaders and security institutions to deliver tangible results as citizens increasingly demand answers and protection in the face of persistent violence.
