INEC Chairman Leads Delegation to South Korea for International Election Observation Programme
Seoul, May 30, 2026
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dispatched a high-level delegation to South Korea, as Chairman Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, SAN, joins global election stakeholders to observe the Republic of Korea’s Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections running from May 29 to June 5, 2026.
The four-member delegation arrived in Seoul on Friday to participate in the International Election Observation Programme (IEOP) — a platform that convenes election management bodies, technical experts, and international observers to study and exchange knowledge on the conduct of local government elections.
Accompanying Prof. Amupitan are National Commissioner Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, the Chairman’s Chief Technical Adviser Prof. Dimis Mai-Lafia, and Director of Training Dr. Binta Kasim Mohammed.
The IEOP presents Nigeria’s electoral commission with a rare front-row seat to one of Asia’s most technically advanced electoral systems. INEC’s participation, officials say, is designed to sharpen the Commission’s understanding of emerging trends and global best practices — spanning election administration, observation methodology, and broader electoral governance.
The delegation’s presence in Seoul signals INEC’s continued drive to benchmark its operations against international standards ahead of upcoming electoral cycles in Nigeria.
