DC Nura Miko Assumes Leadership at PTML Command, Pledges Integrity-Driven Trade Facilitation
Lagos, Nigeria – May 28, 2026
Deputy Comptroller of Customs Nura Ibrahim Miko has formally taken over as Acting Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command.
The leadership transition occurred on Monday, May 25, 2026, with Miko succeeding Comptroller Joe Anani, who handed over after recording a remarkable ₦181 billion in revenue during his eight-month tenure.
In his maiden address to officers and stakeholders, DC Miko emphasized a leadership style rooted in collaboration rather than fear. “I am here to work with you, not merely to lead you. Integrity will be non-negotiable; trade facilitation will remain our priority, due process will be strictly respected, and teamwork will be our greatest strength. Results will be achieved through collaboration, not fear. Together, we will take this command to greater heights,” he stated.
Miko described the PTML Command as a well-structured and highly functional formation. He pledged to consolidate existing gains while deepening reforms aimed at strengthening compliance, transparency, and efficiency in cargo clearance processes. He also called for stronger inter-agency cooperation, noting that effective port management depends on synergy among sister agencies and stakeholders to advance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security objectives.
In his valedictory remarks, outgoing Comptroller Joe Anani described his stewardship as a period of consolidation. He said he inherited ongoing reforms under the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, and worked with officers, sister agencies, and stakeholders to take the command to the next level.
Anani highlighted key achievements, including the successful implementation of one-hour clearance for compliant vehicle imports and improved stakeholder confidence in port processes. The command honoured his contributions with a send-forth ceremony, during which officers, stakeholders, and members of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) presented gifts and tributes.
DC Miko’s appointment brings his proven experience in revenue management and operational reforms to PTML, one of Nigeria’s key ports for vehicle and general cargo handling. His leadership is expected to sustain the command’s strong performance trajectory under the broader modernisation drive of the Nigeria Customs Service.
